Navigating the post-apocalyptic wilderness of Days Gone requires constant resource gathering and stat upgrades. The Horse Lake NERO Checkpoint serves as a crucial early-game destination where players can secure vital injectors to boost health, stamina, or focus. Located in the Cascade region, this site presents a unique challenge due to the nearby Death Train Horde sleeping in nearby boxcars.

Finding the Horse Lake NERO Checkpoint Location

The Horse Lake NERO Checkpoint is situated north of the O'Leary Mountain safe house in the Cascade wilderness. Players can easily spot the medical units parked near a railway bridge and a stagnant body of water. Approaching the area carefully is essential because the surrounding terrain offers limited cover against roaming threats.

Before attempting to enter the compound, take time to survey the perimeter from a safe distance using your binoculars. Identifying the precise positions of the speakers and the generator will make the operation much smoother. Taking these initial precautions prevents unwanted surprises once the power returns.

Disabling the Alarms and Restoring Power

Restoring power without disabling the public address speakers will immediately draw the nearby Freaker horde down upon your position. Climb onto the main mobile medical unit roof and use your boot knife to cut the wiring on top-mounted speakers. Additionally, check the nearby light poles and vehicle tops to shoot down remaining speakers using a suppressed firearm.

Once all sound devices are silenced, locate the fuel canister sitting nearby in a tow truck bed or near the train tracks. Carry the gas to the generator positioned behind the main NERO building and fill its fuel tank. Press the start button to power up the facility doors safely without triggering loud alarms.

Exploring the Facility and Claiming Rewards

Inside the unlocked NERO building, players can find a valuable NERO Injector container to permanently increase combat stats. You will also discover various crafting materials, medical supplies, and audio logs detailing the early outbreak events. Collecting these items ensures Deacon stays well-equipped for future encounters across the map.

Before leaving the area, search the nearby military corpse near the edge of the camp to collect rare IPCA Tech. Restoring power here also unlocks a convenient fast-travel point and safe shelter for future journeys through the Cascade region. Taking the extra time to fully clear this checkpoint pays off significantly throughout your campaign.
